Windshield Washer Fluid
Windshield Washer Fluid
At the risk of being harshly judged, I’m going to admit that not once have I put windshield washer fluid in my car. (And by not once I mean… at least not that I remember, or with any kind of frequency that made me confident I knew how.)
It was one of those post–snow storm drives where the windshield wipers are on almost constantly, and the need to wash off the wet dirt kicked up by other vehicles is relentless. (iykyk.) This detail is important, because had I not needed it so desperately I probably would have put off the incredibly embarrassing call to my dad.
Now, I’m resourceful. I could have used ChatGPT. Or YouTube. Or Googled it and figured it out. But I didn’t really need more information, well okay, a little. What I needed most was a little reassurance. I needed to ask the question and have someone I trust say, “You’re not ridiculous. Here’s what you do.”
If he was judging me, he didn’t let on. And, after having done it, it turns out it wasn’t the filling of the reservoir that was the hard part. Finding the latch to fully open the hood, though? That tripped me up for a minute or two.
I share this because I think a lot of people have similar feelings when it comes to asking questions about their finances, and I’m hoping my own vulnerability makes it just a little easier for someone else to ask the thing they’ve been hesitant to say out loud. I don’t mean to say navigating finances is as simple as adding windshield washer fluid to your car. But that feeling of, “I have a question that feels stupid.” or “I should already know how to do this.” That’s very real. And very common.
It’s important to ask those questions, and even more important to have someone you feel safe asking.
Don't wait until you're contemplating if you can see by rolling down your drivers side window to replace the windshield washer fluid.
